Insight Discovery
We follow a simple and proven 5 step discovery process to build confidence and minimise risk in data insights projects.
1. Organisational Readiness
Objective: Uncover organisational barriers, to plan for successful adoption
Experience has taught us that the success of data visualisation and insight projects is dependent on many additional non-functional requirements related to organisational readiness to roll out, adopt, embrace, support and evolve the solution over time.
We will help identify actionable improvement steps that may include areas such as training and development, licensing, IT support, budget planning & programme management.
Outputs: Readiness assessment highlighting barriers for adoption and recommended improvements or investments necessary to maximise the ROI of the solution
2. Insight Discovery
Objective: Obtain an understanding of the business need, to establish requirements and success criteria.
Effective insights drive behaviours which positively impact business goals through measurable KPIs. We will help you define and prioritise solution requirements by establishing audiences and their next best actions. We will identify the data needed to drive effective decision making and establish a modern end user experience that will provide the information people need when and how they need it.
Outputs: A prioritised and actionable backlog of required reports, visualisations, alerts and next best actions
3. Data Landscape
Objective: Catalogue required data sources, to identify technical, security and governance constraints
Candidate data sources need to be understood as these will affect technology selection, licencing and resource allocation. It is also important to establish any data security and regulatory constraints to ensure that all necessary controls are put in place and verified.
Outputs: Catalogue of data assets, characteristics and constraints
4. Power BI Report Design & Architecture
Objective: Identify and design data pipelines, to define a candidate solution architecture and user experience
This step will build on both the functional and non-functional requirements to deliver a high-fidelity Power BI prototype and candidate pipeline architecture.
The Power BI prototype will provide candidate visualisations and interactions that will define the user experience. We will build on our expertise of building compelling reports and dashboards to establish a report that is functional with a modern, intuitive look and feel.
A high-level solution architecture will document the pipelines necessary to transform source data into representations suitable for reporting. The architecture must take into consideration all functional and non-functional requirements. It includes the security architecture which describes the access controls, key management, and governance necessary for compliance. We will also provide indicative costs for budgeting purposes.
Outputs: Interactive report design, pipeline architecture, cost model, security architecture
5. Planning & Roadmap
Objective: Implementation and roadmap planning, to communicate the activities, tasks and dependencies
A clear and actionable plan for implementation is essential for budgeting and resource planning. It aligns delivery teams and business stakeholders' expectations and provides an important means to report progress against project and organisational milestones.
The plan will include any actions identified from step 1, such as training and development activities, to ensure a successful solution roll out.
Outputs: Actionable implementation plan and roadmap
